第１位：『身近な生物のきもち』（大島健夫著、メイツ出版）推薦者：甲斐荘秀生さん
はじめて投稿します。甲斐荘（かいのしょう）秀生と申します。
この本の建て付けは、タヌキがインタビュアーになって、カラスやカブトムシ、果てはクヌギの木といった日本に住む人にとって身近な生物に、普段何を思いながら、どんな暮らしをしているかを聞いていく、インタビュー集の体をとっています。
著者・大島健夫さんはネイチャーガイドであり、またポエトリー・リーディングの分野で活躍する詩人でもあります（私も個人的な知り合いです）。ですから専門知識と詩情が融和しており、生態の勉強になるだけでなく、「（人間の感情に表すなら）この生物って、こんなこと本当に考えてそうだな」と思えてくる、「動物・植物の立場」を追体験できる本になっています。
これがシリーズの3作目で、既刊『外来生物のきもち』『希少生物のきもち』もとても面白いので、気になったらそちらもどうぞ。
第２位：『歴史とは何か』（Ｅ･H･カー著、清水幾太郎訳、岩波書店）推薦者：尼野ゆたかさん
前々回のオススメ本として取り上げた塩野七生「マキアヴェッリ語録」の中には、以下のような文章も見られます。
「国家を維持していこうと望む者は、自国民を武装させ、自国民による軍隊を持たねばならない」
「現代（十六世紀）の君主や共和国で、戦いに訴えねばならない場合に、自国民からなる軍隊をもっていない指導者や国家は恥じてしかるべきである」
これについて、光文社古典新訳文庫「君主論」を読みますと、マキアヴェッリが生きたフィレンツェ共和国では、モラルにも能力にも問題がある軍事力を傭兵に依存していて、そこへの問題意識から上記の言葉が生まれたことが分かります。
この現代日本と全く異なる前提を塩野七生は説明せず、ただ言葉のみ引用しています。その「語り方」により、現代（二十一世紀の日本）に生きる我々にはある種の方向性を持った認識が与えられる仕掛けになっています。1988年の初版時には更にそうだったことでしょう。
このような「手法」について、歴史学の分野では既に取り上げられてきました。
主たる書籍が、イギリスの歴史家E･H･カーによる「歴史とは何か」です。
本著でカーは「歴史を学ぶには、歴史家を学ばねばならない」と語っています。
「いかなる事実に、また、いかなる順序、いかなる文脈で発言を許すかを決めるのは歴史家なのです」とも、「歴史家は必然的に選択的なものであります」とも。
カーの金言として知られ、本著でも繰り返し説かれる「歴史とは、過去と現在の対話である」という言葉があります。
対話故に、こちらの語りかける言葉次第で、相手の返答も変わってくる。歴史を考えるにあたっては、心に刻んでおかねばならない事実でありましょう。
カーは歴史家と小説家を峻別しており、塩野七生の本に用いるのはどうかという向きもあるかと思います。しかしその二つがともすれば同じ枠組みで語られる現代において、大変重要な考え方ではないかと僕は思うのです。
第３位：『おもいでマシン』（梶尾真治著、新潮文庫nex）推薦者：三瀬 弘泰さん
梶尾先生のショートショート作品集。
なんと『有機戦士バイオム』から33年ぶりのショートショート刊行です。
約3分で読めるお話しが40編収録されています。
通勤のバス・電車待ちの時間、学校の朝読書などの空き時間にピッタリ。
そう、現代人のニーズに合っているのです。
まさか30年以上の時を経て、令和の生活にマッチするなんて、まさに"SF作家"の想像力は未来を予見する？とまでは言いませんが。
内容もSF、ホラー、コメディに人情、恋に愛憎と多種多様。
『しんえんくん』というお話しはニーチェの文言から落語的大転換とカジシン節の真骨頂！
梶尾先生は『黄泉がえり』『サラマンダー殲滅』『ダブル・トーン』など長編も良いですが、このショート・ショートにこそ著書のエッセンス(真髄)が凝縮されていると思います。
1日一話読んでも40日楽しめる。
一気に読んでお気に入りを再読してみるのも読み方としては面白いかもしれません。
